1996-08-22: Your Partner for CD-Technology

PoINT Software & Systems GmbH has specialized in software products, system solutions and services in the area of CD and Multimedia Engineering. Today, a particular focus is on the CD-recordable technology which is implemented in products and project solutions.

Already since 1985, the PoINT team has been operating internationally in this sector. Initially being a world-wide acting competence center of Philips it was afterwards included in the European project organization of Digital Equipment GmbH.

This devision was divested from Digital Equipment in 1994, with PoINT keeping all products and rights and being taken over by former leading staff.

Being a part of Philips and Digital Equipment, the PoINT team decisively influenced the development and standardization of all major CD technologies and it partly initiated same, like e.g. the X/Open XCDR and CD recordable specifications as well as the corresponding standards.

Consequently, the realization of these experiences took place as internationally sold CD-ROM and CD recordable products for MS-DOS, Windows, Windows NT, OS/2 and UNIX. This even includes special solutions – partly in connection with CD jukeboxes – in the audio sector, archiving and the duplication of CDs.

“PoINT CDpublish” is an absolutely reliable product for the creation of CDs for Digital UNIX on an Alpha AXP system. In connection with a commercially available CD recorder, CDpublish offers the following characteristics granting full multi tasking functionality:

- ISO9660 with Rock Ridge extension
- Single-session and multi-session support
- Easy integration into batch-oriented applications
- Creation of bootable UNIX CDs
- Creation of VMS specific CDs

PoINT CDpublish for Digital Unix is used world-wide. Well known customers are for example Digital Equipment, Dornier, Siemens, Software AG, STN Atlas Elektronik and Unispital Zürich which have implemented the software for platform independent software distribution, data storage and archiving.
