PoINT Software & Systems at the DMS-Expo in Essen, 9/26 – 9/28/2001, hall 3, booth 3512
SIEGEN, Germany, July 25, 2001. One option to integrate additional jukebox functions the easy way is being offered to suppliers of standard solutions such as document management system (DMS) by PoINT Software & Systems GmbH. In short, with the Application Connector AppCon, PoINT offers add-ons for the PoINT Jukebox Manager that are specifically developed for the respective application. And their implementation does not require any changes of the standard application or the workflow. The PoINT AppCon is installed like an update for the PoINT Jukebox Manager without having to purchase additional licenses. All further administration is easy and intuitive. Besides CDs the system can also be used with other exchangeable media such as DVDs or MOs.
Two PoINT AppCon are currently available, which support the DMS specialists DocuWare and Kohlhammer Compunication. At DocuWare the PoINT Jukebox Manager links several CD/DVD jukeboxes in DocuWare systems. With only one jukebox for 600 DVD media up to 2.8 terabyte or roughly 50 million scanned A4 pages can be archived and searched fully automatically with DocuWare 4. If the DocuWare software already enabled read access on CD and DVD, the Application Connector for DocuWare now makes a fully automatic migration of documents in the jukebox as easy as 1, 2, 3. The electronic document management with DocuWare can record, manage and archive documents such as correspondence, receipts, drawings or e-mails. “CDs and DVDs are optimally suited for long-term archiving and revision protected storage of vast amounts of data that accumulate in the course of time. The Jukebox Manager for DocuWare now represents a server software that allows several users to access jukeboxes in networks simultaneously,” explains Thomas Schneck, sales manager at DocuWare AG, the benefits of the new solution.
For the DMS solution WK-Archiv, developed by Kohlhammer Compunication, the PoINT AppCon enhances the caching and administrative functionality of the Jukebox Manager for faster access. For the user this add-on means no more time-consuming media exchange and read times: When a CD is inserted and loaded into the jukebox the add-on recognizes the Kohlhammer administration and index files and keeps them in the harddrive cache until the CD is ejected. The user performs a well-aimed search of the index files on the CDs in the jukebox. The medium is only loaded when the requested document is found and read. “With the PoINT AppCon Kohlhammer implemented a new concept of jukebox storage systems. WK-Archiv and the PoINT Jukebox-Manager saves the user precious time,” says Rudolf U. Schliebusch, district manager of W. Kohlhammer Compunication.
