“In contrast to the past two years companies again emphasize the balanced integration of different storage technologies”, subsumes Bernd Klee, CEO, the discussions. “This time, storage concepts and solutions came to the fore in which hard disk, optical media and tape can show their strength.”
For PoINT, CeBIT traditionally is the time of the year to meet their national and international partners. PoINT offers storage solutions in more than 25 countries; correspondingly international are the partners. As stated in the CeBIT visitor’s statistics, the total number of visitors is increasing and so is the number of professional leads visiting the PoINT booth, especially as regards partner and hardware supplier. “This is among other reasons due to the fact that we support UNIX as additional platform and integrated tape as another mass storage medium, which finally created a lot of promising new leads”, said Klee. Especially contacts to international partners have increased this year.
The new focus of Hall 1 and the emphasis on document management most likely pushed the course of the fair. Marco Voegele, PoINT Director of Sales: “Shows like the one in the DMS-Area of VOI e.V. cover a considerable part of our market sector. The long-term aim of Messe AG to declare parts of Hall 1 for DMS-area is according to our estimation a positive development.” Topics like GDPdU, handling of incoming mail, workflow or e-mail archiving are practically the “business drivers” in companies to deal with storage solutions. “Our product range, which combines the three common mass storage types, is directly at the point of intersection of all these topics.”
The booming tendency in the IT-sector, which announced various organisations dedicated to the economic cycle prior to the CeBIT, is attested by Bernd Klee at end of CeBIT. “PoINT is also favoured by the fact that a stabilization of hard disk prices benefits a sound balance when compared to optical media.” Especially the increase in capacity of the new Blue Laser Technology, like e.g. UDO, PDD or Blu-ray causes a revival of optical media. “This is our focus. Thus, we expect a positive trend in 2005 to come.”
