2005-02-02: Assuring Investments in Company Storage Solutions in the Long-Run
Siegen. On occasion of the CeBIT in Hanover (March 10th to 16th, 2005) the storage specialist PoINT will present a series of new version of its storage software products on its Booth 5g4 in Hall 1 which can be used for cost effective integration and enhancement of both OEM’s and and final customer’s products and solutions. This way, PoINT products can be combined with most diverse appliances, applications and techologies into heterogeneous storage networks.
Due to their mode of operation, PoINT products could be defined as “Middleware”, the integration layer between application and data archival. PoINT supplies corresponding tools and software solutions for OEM and final customers, to integrate most diverse optical media (CD/DVD, MO/UDO, Blu-ray/PDD) into their applications. For example, from now on PoINT Jukebox Manager mirrors data on media in one jukebox on media in the same or a different jukebox. This new software generation supports the automated and realtime production of data duplicates following international decrees (e.g. Sarbanes-Oxley Act). Moreover, basing on latest protocols like e.g. iSCSI, separated locations for original and replicate media are cost effectively implemented.
Another novelty: The latest version of PoINT FSX, a software for integrating optical jukeboxes, no matter what manufacturer and with excellent performance, into heterogeneous networks basing on the Linux-technology. The software offers Volume Sets, File Spanning and advanced chaching to technicians for an excellent performance in a Linux- or Unix-Environment. PoINT customers, who have large computing centres like e.g. banks or insurances, can also implement PoINT FSX in the future in case they run Unix-derivatives like e.g. Sun Solaris as operating systems.
The implementation of tape is still interesting. Therefore, PoINT presents a software subsystem named PoINT TapeArchive SDK which has already been successfully implemented by OEM customers. This storage technology will be integrated into PoINT Jukebox Manager and PoINT FSX in the future. “It was always our concern to support both cost effective mass storage solution in parallel run with well known and new technologies with our products. Classical tape is part of this.”
