2009-08-06: DMS EXPO: PoINT Presents Economical Storage Management (Hall 7.1, Booth A3/B2)
Siegen. For the first time at DMS EXPO 2009 in Cologne, the storage specialist PoINT Software & Systems GmbH shows its PoINT Storage Manager for protection and off-load of NetApp FAS systems on alternative storage technologies. Furthermore, the integration and migration from obsolete systems to state-of-the-art storage solutions will be demonstrated live. The new PoINT Archiver 4.0 release will also be shown at the PoINT booth (hall 7.1, booth A3/B2). Thanks to the new licensing model, which actually enables administration of unlimited offline media, file based archiving solutions can be implemented economically on mass storage media (tape, optical storage). PoINT’s product portfolio for DMS EXPO is completed by the presentation of PoINT Jukebox Manager. The universal software solution for the integration of up-to-date Blu-ray disc (BD) jukebox systems supports even proprietary file systems and technologies for migration scenarios.
PoINT Storage Manager now even protects and off-loads NetApp FAS systems
Since the availability of the first PoINT Storage Manager version, users of Windows file servers can rely on a comprehensive set of rules for data protection and archival on and migration to nearly all kind of storage systems. With the new release even NetApp customers can take advantage of the easily configurable solution for storage and off-load of their NetApp FAS system. Data can be stored additionally on alternative storage solutions like a BD jukebox. This way it is even possible to replace files by a space saving link to regain free capacity on the NetApp FAS system.
An unaltered highlight of PoINT Storage Manager is the migration functionality from obsolete technologies to state-of-the-art storage systems, which remains transparent for applications. At the PoINT booth a live migration process will be demonstrated using a configuration of a MO jukebox and a NetApp FAS system.
Unlimited offline storage with PoINT Archiver 4.0
Offline capacities are no longer charged additionally in the new licensing model of PoINT Archiver. This way, an economical, file based archive solution with almost unlimited capacity on tape and optical media is available. The support of LTO drives and autoloaders was extended to almost all standard devices by a mapping algorithm.
PoINT Jukebox Manager for the replacement of proprietary systems
PoINT Jukebox Manager makes modern BD storage systems accessible for nearly all applications. The software for the integration of optical jukeboxes and single drives, which is well established in the DMS market, moreover supports obsolete and proprietary file systems (e.g. Plasmon file system) and thus enables a straightforward transition to new and standardised storage solutions.
