2008-06-12: PoINT Publisher NG allows efficient, network-wide and fully integrated media production
Siegen. PoINT Publisher “NG” (“Next Generation”), the next generation of PoINT Software & Systems’ disc publishing software, is available with immediate effect. The software solution for the professional production of labelled CD/DVD/BDs is now based on the flexible .NET-technology and allows the control of the media production by clients. Therefore, PoINT equipped the latest vista-compatible version of PoINT Publisher NG with a new, intuitive graphical user interface for the clients. In case of demand, media production is possible without the client application by Event Controlled Recording (ECR) by the file system. If requested, Event Controlled Recording (ECR) and a Batch Interface will provide both a seamless integration into existing workflows and a high level of automation. This way, users will receive a most flexibly useable system, which offers production possibilities ranging from individual productions to a network-wide serial production.
The distribution of electronic information via CDs, DVDs or BDs has meanwhile become standard practice. Thus, there is a market for professional technologies providing an efficient production of this media. The modularly designed PoINT Publisher NG meets these demands. The solution is able to control up to four CD/DVD/BD production systems – each consisting of one robotic for the media change, various recorders and one printer – in a fully automatic production environment. This way, “On-demand Publishing” is enabled, during which mostly individually designed discs will be produced on demand out of existing data. Thus, commercial users are now longer faced with the inacceptable way of producing CDs, DVDs or BDs with only one recorder and changing the media manually.
The server components of PoINT Publisher NG control the connected CD/DVD/BD instead. The graphical user interface of the client application enables the production of media copies, new data CD/DVD/BDs, audio CDs or print jobs and even the transfer to the server with only few mouse clicks. Controlling the status of production and devices by the customer is also possible via the network.
Control via the file system is possible
On demand, media production can be controlled via the file system without the client application. Therefore, the requested files will be copied to a specific file on the server. The user defines the triggers which start the production and write the data to the afterwards labelled media. The so called Event Controlled Recording enables the use of CD/DVD/BD production systems, even in heterogeneous environments.
Seamless integration into existing workflows
Besides Event Controlled Recording (ECR), the user is able to use the Batch Interface of PoINT Publisher NG to integrate media production into the existing workflow. A plain script-language defines the media content, the print file and further job attributes as a project and transmits it to the server. This way, applications like for example “Invoices on CD”, “Music CD on demand” or “Patient’s CD” can be realized.
