2008-08-04: PoINT Jukebox Manager allows Secure Data Archival – Manipulation Impossible
Siegen. At DMS Expo (booth A032) the storage specialist PoINT Software & Systems GmbH presents its version 6.0 of PoINT Jukebox Manager – a solution for data storage on optical media (CD/DVD, MO/UDO, PDD, BD). The software controls readability of media and data in definable periods or after a manual trigger. This way, companies can rest assured that their data will remain readable for years. In addition, PoINT Jukebox Manager creates an optional labelled offline copy of a medium when combined with a further production system.
Data losses as well as insufficient fulfilment of legal regulations constantly endanger the existence of companies and their responsible management. High fines and imprisonment resulting from undiscoverable information currently make headlines mainly in the US, but European governments have already picked this issue. Consequently, the importance of data archival considerably rose becoming an important topic for the company management as well. PoINT Jukebox Manager offers an economically and ecologically reasonable solution for the safe archival of business critical data.
By PoINT Jukebox Manager, companies are in a position to archive their data safely on CD, DVD, Magneto Optical Disc (MO), Professional Disc for Data (PDD), Ultra Density Optical (UDO) as well as on Blu-ray discs. This way they are physically unchangeably fixed and thus manipulation is impossible. An optional mirroring function creates Jukebox Manager media with identical content, which can – if needed – be stored in two jukebox systems in separate locations. For example, the jukeboxes can be placed in two different fire protection areas which increases data security even more. Additionally, the data remains on hard disk as long as it takes to write the optical media fully and without any defect. Optionally, PoINT Jukebox Manager can create a labelled offline copy of a medium by an additional CD/DVD/BD production system.
An individual archive application accesses the data as usual via the file system. By a comprehensive automated control routine the readability of data and media is checked in definable periods or after manual trigger. Subsequently, the administrator receives a notification on the status of the media and the information stored thereon. This way, data can be copied to a new medium in time.
