One petabyte are one quadrillion (1.000.000.000.000.000) bytes. This corresponds to 1.000 terabyte or 1.000.000 gigabyte. This is a gigantically huge amount of data when compared to the estimation of ECIN (Electronic Commerce Info Net) which forecasted that for 2004 the total data volume in www (texts, images and videos) would be about ten petabyte.
By implementing PoINT Jukebox Manager, China Construction Bank stores the two petabyte of data on double layer DVD media using 130 Netzon GMS3560 and 40 Netzon GMS2105 jukeboxes supplied by Human Interactive Technologies GmbH.
PoINT Jukebox Manager allows a secure data archival – manipulation impossible
PoINT Jukebox Manager allows companies to safely archive their data on CD, DVD, Magnetico Optical Disc (MO), Professional Disc for Data (PDD), Ultra Density Optical (UDO) as well as Blu-Ray Disc (BD). This way the data is fixed being physically unchangeable and manipulation is impossible. By an optional mirroring mechanism, PoINT Jukebox Manager creates media with identical content. If requested, media can be stored in separated places in two jukebox systems. For example, the jukeboxes can be located in two different fire protection areas which increase data security even more. Additionally, data remains as long on hard disk as it takes to be written fully and without any defects to optical media. The individual archive appliance accesses data as usual by the file system.
In the current version 6.0 a comprehensive and automatic control routine is integrated, which checks readability of both data and media in definable periods or on a manual trigger. Afterwards, the administrator receives a notification about the status of the media and the stored information. This provides the possibility to copy the data to new media in due time.
About HIT Human Interactive Technologies GmbH
HIT GmbH is based in Nuernberg and was established in 2000 on occasion of the takeover of the jukebox-division of Grundig AG. The company develops, produces and merchandises CD/DVD jukeboxes world-wide. Main business segment are the removable 35-slot-magazines which take up a maximum 560 CD/DVDs nearline and which are at the same time suitable for long-term off-line archival. The robotics especially advanced by HIT allows to connect current standard drives smoothly. Please refer to www.hit-net.com or www.netzon.eu for further information.
About PoINT
PoINT Software & Systems GmbH, Siegen, is specialized in the development of software products and system solutions in the field of optical storage media (CD, DVD, MO, UDO, PDD, BD) and magnetic tapes (e.g. AIT, LTO, DLT, StorageTek). Besides these complete solutions PoINT also offers its know-how in the form of software-development-kits, which can be easily integrated into other applications. PoINT products are distributed by 50 partners in more than 25 countries world-wide and have been installed successfully in about 2 million installations. The product portfolio ranges from publishing of CD/DVD/BDs, professional audio- and video-recording to business critical network solutions, e.g. in the DMS-environment or in complex storage hierarchies, which are based on automatic systems (e.g. jukeboxes or CD/DVD/BD production systems) with optical media or magnetic tape.
