2008-01-21: PoINT Storage Solutions Provide Long-Term Availability of Data on Different Types of Storage Media
Siegen. On occasion of the CeBIT 2008 (Hall 2, Booth D40) the storage specialist PoINT Software & Systems GmbH presents its current software products providing long-term availability of data on different types of storage media. Among them is the latest version 3.0 of PoINT Archiver – a software solution archiving data throughout the whole network. The user determines by comprehensive filters which files shall be archived. Additionally, the user can choose which type of medium to use for archiving – either hard disk, tape or optical media. Moreover, PoINT presents the latest version 6.0 of PoINT Jukebox Manager, a software solution for data storage on optical media (CD/DVD, MO/UDO, PDD, BD). The new release checks both media and data for their readability on a regular and definable basis. Thus companies can be sure that their data will be readable for years. Additionally, when combining PoINT Jukebox Manager with another production system, optional labelled offline-copies of an original medium can be produced. PoINT’s CeBIT exhibition programme is rounded up by the presentation of the brand-new Vista-compatible PoINT Publisher NG (“Next Generation”) – a system for the professional production of labelled CD/DVD/BDs. The product is now based on the flexible .NET-technology, which enables the user to control media production through clients by implementing an intuitive graphical user interface. If requested, Event Controlled Recording (ECR) and a Batch Interface will provide both a seamless integration into existing workflows and a high level of automation. This way, users will receive a highly flexible useable system, which offers production possibilities ranging from individual productions to a network-wide serial production.
PoINT Archiver offers the possibility of automated, secure and cost-effective archival even in times of steadily growing data volumes. By means of configurable filters the user defines which data is to be classified being relevant. The user even determines the media, on which the data shall be written. PoINT Archiver monitors directories network-wide and archives those file types on additional data systems (as archive images e.g. on NAS-hard disk), tape or optical which have been defined beforehand by specific filters. Replication on another storage medium protects the data additionally. The data archived on a file system can be replaced by a link (reparse point) on the primary system. This way, the occupied hard disk capacity as well as back-up and recovery times are reduced. A “digital fingerprint” helps PoINT Archiver to find out whether a storage medium or file has been manipulated. It is archived in an encrypted way on each media and additionally in the database, informing you about the integrity of the data. This feature will enable you to identify deleted or manipulated media. An optional encrypting mechanism protects archived data against exterior intrusion. The combination of the system key and different archive keys ensures that the files on a storage medium are not accessible for unauthorized persons outside the PoINT Archiver installation. This combines the advantages of removable media with the security characteristics of closed systems. The structure of the archived data is displayed likewise Windows Explorer. In case of recovery of files, directories or a complete offline archive you will be presented the complete list of required media and you will be asked to import them into the production system.
PoINT Jukebox Manager Allows Secure Data Archival – Manipulation Impossible
During CeBIT, PoINT focuses on PoINT Jukebox Manager, too. It will provide archive solutions for companies for CD, DVD, Magnetical Optical Disc (MO), Professional Disc for Data (PDD), Ultra Density Optical (UDO) as well as Blu-Ray Disc (BD). The latest version implies comprehensive automated control rules, which examine readability of data and media in pre-defined intervals or a manual instruction. As a result, the administrator receives a message on the condition of the media and the information stored on them. This enables the administrator to copy data on new media in time.
PoINT Publisher Allows Efficient, Network-Wide and Fully Integrated Media Production
Moreover, PoINT will be pleased to present the new version “NG” (“Next Generation”) of PoINT Publisher for the first time ever. The system for the professional production of labelled CD/DVD/BDs is now based on the flexible .NET-technology and offers control of the media production through clients. Therefore, PoINT fitted the core of the Vista-compatible Publisher with a new, intuitive graphical user interface. In case of demand, media production can be controlled by the user without client application only through the data system with the help of Event Controlled Recording (ECR). If requested, ECR and a Batch Interface provide a seamless integration into an existing workflow which ensures a high level of automation. This offers the user a very flexible system with the possibility of network-wide individual designed production or serial production. PoINT Publisher NG offers the feature of running up to four CD/DVD/BD production systems – consisting of each one autoloader, numerous recorders and one printer – in a fully automatic production environment. This allows “On-demand-publishing” during which mostly individually designed discs consisting of already existing data are produced. During “On-demand-publishing” the server components of PoINT Publisher NG control the connected CD/DVD/BD production systems. Due to the intuitive graphical user interface of the client application, only few mouse clicks are necessary to produce copies of media, new data CD/DVD/BDs, Video-DVDs, Audio-CDs as well as print jobs and to sent them to the server. The production status and the attached appliances can be monitored network-wide.
